Former accountant discovers new career and work-life balance as a Fatburger franchisee
Why did you become a franchisee?
Before becoming a Fatburger franchisee, I was an accountant working for the government. After having my second baby, my husband and I made the decision to open our own business. Becoming a franchisee allows me to have more control over how I manage my time to maintain a family/work balance. We looked at owning a Fatburger as making an investment into our future.
How did you learn about your franchise and what made you choose it?
Fatburger at Seton caught our attention when we were looking for opportunities into up and coming communities still under development. When we found this store, we had been doing a lot of research about Fatburger. The way that Fatburger operates is quite different than other burger chains. It’s somewhere between full service and fast food. We believed that it would attract people looking for quick, high-quality food with a focus on service. All of the food is cooked fresh to order with premium ingredients. With people paying more attention to where their food comes from and how it’s prepared, Fatburger will serve this trend and continue to grow.
What do you love most about being a franchisee?
Going from being an accountant to a restaurant owner is a big change for me, but being a franchisee makes me go beyond the accounting world. I have started to synchronize the management and accounting knowledge with the business operation. I love this new career because I can try all different ways to improve the business and see it grow in the future.
What are your top three tips for new franchisees?
Three tips I’ve learned from the Fatburger head office in the past year have helped me a lot. 1. Value the employees. Employees are the key of the business. Without motivated and caring staff, the business will not grow longer and stronger. 2. Maintaining the high quality of food and services is another key for the success of the business. Consistently meeting these high standards is always the goal I want to reach. 3. Take care of your guests! Guests visit Fatburger for a pleasant experience and great food. We work hard to go above and beyond their expectations, and if any issues arise we listen to concerns and make things right.
